I Did It - Baby Quilt Reveal!
YOU GUYS! I did it! I got the baby quilts done with mere days to spare. That sounds like a close call - and it felt like it too! - but it is infinitely better than having hours or minutes to spare, which is what I thought was going to happen!
And since you all followed along with me on my journey to getting these sweet baby quilts done, I thought it was probably an unspoken promise that I show you the final products. So without further delay...
I am so pleased with how they turned out, even though I really stressed myself out with the deadlines. These two quilts are for family members, and I put more thought into them than usual.
For some reason, every fabric selection and every detail felt really important. One of the quilts is for my step-brother’s new baby, and because my mom didn’t remarry until I was already an adult, I don’t have a super close relationship with my step-siblings (although we do like each other quite well!). For that reason, I really wanted this to be a meaningful gesture to welcome my new niece or nephew into the world, and to show how much it means to me to have step-siblings that I like, and that I’m excited our family is growing.
The other is for a mama who is a dear, dear friend, but who is also distantly related by several degrees of marriage on my step-father’s side. She is part of a group of women who are my closest friends (our book club!), and I also wanted to show her how much she means to me, especially because she is kind of the queen of the group, having brought us all together to start with!
So yes, I’m relieved to get these done and checked off the list. But these baby quilts mean a lot more than just a checkbox. I hope they see lots of action throughout the years and that the families who receive them feel as loved as they are!Stay tuned for next week’s post - I’m going to teach you how to do the fold-over binding you see on (almost) all my quilts, including these two!
