Quilting Collaborations - Episode 4 0

Bonjour! Welcome back to the second to last installment of Quilting Collaborations.

In this episode, I’m exploring potential in my life for quilting collaborations. My inspiration to collaborate hasn’t waned since the initial lightning bolt struck, and I’m seeing opportunities everywhere!

The obvious collaboration possibility is with Nancy the Quilting Goddess. We sew in tandem all the time, so why not create something together!?

I also work with Kim the Quilter’s Mart Boss Lady here at QM, but it doesn’t have to be all business… we could create together too!

But the most intriguing revelation lately has been the discovery that I have friends in my book club who also quilt. I had no idea! We have so many other shared interests, and so many of our meetings involve book discussions, that I was completely unaware that any of them sewed.

There are two ladies in the book club in particular who sew frequently. Now that we know this about each other, we often send each other pictures of in-progress projects, share quilting victories, and ask each other advice. This new facet of our relationship is so fun!

I think we should elevate it, though. We have another book club baby on the way… and I think I’ll propose making a quilt for the bundle of joy who is currently baking away in mama’s belly as a collaborative project. The thought excites me endlessly!

As a matter of fact… I just sent off the text to propose the idea. I’m so happy that the universe has spoken so clearly to me recently about the need to collaborate. I think it will fill my soul up to share the creative experience with some friends.

Happy quilting, readers! Do you have any collaborations you’re currently working on? Tell me about them in the comments!

Quilting Collaborations - Episode 3 0

Happy Tuesday, all! Today I want to share a blast from the past quilting collaboration starring yours truly as a 10 year old!

The collaboration was part of a Girl Scouts project with my troop. I can’t remember the exact intention, but I know that we were all tasked with making a square for a baby quilt. My best guess is that the quilt was to be donated to a baby in need, given the general spirit of the Girl Scouts.

The project was my first experience with quilting, and I had completely forgotten about it until recently when another former member of our troop posted the picture of all of us with our finished product online.

I don’t know which square was mine, but I do remember that we all used a mixture of embroidery, fabric markers, fabric paint, and imagination to make the beauty pictured below.

Look at all of us! We were so proud! Any guesses about which beaming 10 year old is me?

Ok, I won’t keep you guessing for long. That wouldn’t be fair! I’m the one in the middle behind the quilt with the short hair. The hair style was short to match my mom, because she was (and still is!) my idol.

If collaborative quilting made 10-year-old me smile that big, I should probably give it another try soon, don’t you think?! If you have a collaboration project you'd like to share with us - enter it into our "WHY I Sew" Contest! Click this LINK, we hope to hear from you soon.
