April Winner! Jodie from Wisconsin (USA)
Congratulations to Jodie of Wisconsin (USA) ! She is one of our April winners!
She made this quilt for her friends daughter named Alyce. She has been quilting for 5 years. Here is her story:
"I live in a small resort community, where everyone seems to know everyone. I have worked at the local library for almost 20 years. Over those years, I have become close to some our patrons--this one couple in particular. Barb and Paul have a large close knit family and have over the years treated me like one of their own. During some health issues, they checked up on me a little more regularly and brought me treats. When I found out that their younger daughter was diagnosed with cancer, I knew I wanted to do something special. For me, that meant make something—a quilt.
Alyce was a vibrant active woman, who loved bright colors. Since the family has a strong religious belief, I decided a guardian angel was what she needed. I didn’t have a pattern. I started with an angel applique and went from there. I pieced and free motioned the quilt myself, and even sewed “Alyce’s Angel” into the quilting.
Alyce lost her battle to cancer at the young age of 44. As you would expect, it was difficult for her parents to say goodbye to their child. Barb kept Alyce’s quilt. I couldn’t ask for any greater compliment than to hear that that quilt gives Barb a sense of peace and love. As long as I can continue to bring comfort, warm and share my love with others, they will continue to be reasons why I sew…"
