March Winner! Rhonda from Victoria (AUS) 0

Our second March winner is Rhonda from Australia! The #QMCommunity really liked the inventive nature of this project. This is a great example of connecting a project with the recipient. Thanks for sharing Rhonda, and congratulations!

Baby Quilt QAYG

My name is Rhonda Murphy from Winslow Victoria Australia. I made this QAYG quilt for my niece, Belinda and great nephew, Noah. It is made using his baby grow suits and is quilted and appliqued. It was made into a wall hanging but I don't think it will be used that way. The morning after it was gifted little Noah put it over himself and said "nice blanket, Noah's blanket" and snuggled into it. I've recently retired so have more time to indulge my passion of more than 40 years but I'm still learning.

She has been quilting for 8 years and here is her story:

"I needed a hobby when I retired eight years ago, so a friend helped me sew my first quilt top, and I have been hooked ever since. I really enjoy making gifts for family and friends and I spend almost every day in my sewing room. I have made numerous quilts, tote bags, table runners and placemats, jewelry pouches, hanging dish towels, pillow pets, and wall hangings. I recently purchased a sewing machine that embroiders, so this Christmas, everyone received an embroidered hanging towel, whether they want one or not!

Quilting for a friend

I gifted a quilt to Sean, who was a caregiver for my folks at Independence Village. In his spare time and with his own money, Sean made model airplanes for resident Veterans, and my dad was also a recipient of one of Sean’s models. Sean and his Veterans were featured in a PBS special, which resulted in Sean’s hobby becoming a full time job for Independence Village around Michigan and Ohio. Sean is an awesome individual, who really cares about his guys and gals, so I wanted to make a patriotic quilt for Sean, to honor him for all the great work he is doing for our Veterans!"

Thank you for sharing Sandy, and congratulations!!
